Who is a registered psychologist?

Psychologists are experts in human behaviour – they study the way people feel, think, act and interact. They use scientific methods to study the factors that influence the way that people think, feel and learn, and evidence-based strategies and interventions to help people to overcome challenges and improve their performance. Many work directly with those experiencing difficulties (such as mental health disorders including anxiety and depression), and aim to reduce distress as well as enhance and promote emotional well-being.

All psychologists are legally required to register with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency – a national body that support the Psychology Board of Australia who is responsible for regulating the profession. They ensure psychologists are competent and follow a strict code of practice.

Our experienced, professional, and caring psychologists can help you develop more adaptive skills needed to manage life stressors and cultivate good health. Open Care Psychology is about working collaboratively with people to understand the underlying reasons and cause behind their distress. Throughout the therapeutic process, we can identify these causes and develop more insight and awareness of unhelpful responses to distress and aim to achieve lasting change. We place a strong emphasis on the therapeutic relationship as it is the core element to any successful intervention. As such, we are committed and passionate about providing an empathetic, non-judgmental, validating, and supportive environment for people to discuss and explore their difficulties and promote self as an agency to empower people to achieve the goals they desire.
